Seven years ago, Jen Gaudet published a book about boundaries.
Almost as soon as she published it, she wanted to unpublish it.
That inner voice kicked in:
Who am I to write a book about this?
What do I really know?
Who am I to teach other people?
She had a serious case of impostor syndrome.
And yet…
The book became a bestseller.
There’s a powerful lesson in that.
Do it — especially when it makes you uncomfortable.
I can relate to this through my journey building Referron.
Building something from an idea is exciting — but it can also be incredibly uncomfortable.
There are days when I wonder:
- What if Referron doesn’t work?
- What if I’m wrong?
- What if people don’t understand the vision?
- What if I fail?
That inner critic can be loud.
And I suspect every entrepreneur, leader and creator experiences some version of it.
We naturally resist change.
We resist discomfort.
We want certainty before we act.
But certainty rarely comes before action.
Sometimes you simply have to put your idea into the world and give people the opportunity to decide for themselves.
That’s what I’m doing with Referron.
I believe everyone has something valuable to share.
Everyone has knowledge, experience, relationships or insights that can help somebody else.
Your job is to work out what that is — and put it out there.
What is your superpower?
Or perhaps the better question is:
What do you WANT your superpower to be?
- Own it.
- Talk about it.
- Share your knowledge.
- Help people.
- Become known for it.
- Become referrable for it.
Yes, there will be people who criticise you.
Some might even mock you.
But there will also be people who love what you’re doing, believe in your vision, support you, introduce you to others and want to be part of your journey.
I’m experiencing that every day while building Referron.
And perhaps that’s the biggest lesson:
Don’t wait until you feel worthy.
Don’t wait until you feel ready.
Don’t wait until you’re certain you won’t fail.
Put yourself out there.
Because the uncomfortable zone is often exactly where the opportunity is.
Just do it.
What’s your superpower — or what do you want it to become?
Put it out there. You never know who needs exactly what you have to offer.
