Ashley Snyder shares her gems from her meeting with Jennifer Hyman who has announced that she's stepping down as CEO of Rent The Runway after an incredible 18 years.
Jennifer cofounded RTR, fresh out of Harvard Business School after watching her sister spend thousands on a dress she'd only wear once.
What followed was 18 years of building something from nothing, pandemic that nearly killed the company, a very public IPO, as the tirst-ever IPO with a temale Founder, CEO, CFO, and COO at the same time and TIME 100. Forbes Most Disruptive.
Ash had an opportunity to sit across from her and these are a few leader lessons she shared that stayed with her:-
• Not everyone has to be a unicorn.
There are the 1% of companies that succeed immediately. Then there are the companies who have decades of consistent and sustainable hard work before they achieve "success".
• Stay in the game.
Most people quit too soon. You have to have optimism to power you forward for the long game.
• Simplify the problem.
Have enough money to survive and then take the time to transform your business.
Have perspective.
Your success is about the small moments!
Your confidence is about rethinking the fear!
• Be human first.
Business doesn't always have to be an exchange.
The "luck" will come to those who are building relationships first.
